ANCIENT CHINESE ART

During the past two decades, Deji Art Museum has built up a unique and comprehensive categorical collection of Chinese works of art. The timeline of the collection spans from the Neolithic period, Shang, Zhou, Qin, Han, to Song, Yuan, Ming, Qing dynasties. The main categories of the collection are jades, ceramics, paintings and calligraphies, Buddhist statues and furniture.

Many of these treasured artefacts have been once owned and handled by the imperial courts, and some of them were acquired from overseas collections and returned to China. Through collection, research, exhibition, education, and cultural exchanges etc, the purpose of presenting these artefacts is for the museum to preserve and promote Chinese works of art for their influential historical value and cultural significance.

Other than the collection of Chinese works of art, Deji Art Museum has built up a collection of modern and contemporary art of the East and the West, gradually establishing the foundation of comprehensive categorical specifications for collection according to artistic genre and style. In addition to the classical works of the masters, the museum continuously conducting research and collecting the hidden treasures. In the future, the museum will participate and become a part of the art communities that pushes the art history and art movement forward. THE ART OF JINLING

Nanjing has always been a prominent political and cultural center in China, dating from the era of Three Kingdom to the present, the city was the capital city of China under the regimes of the Sunwu, Eastern Jin, Song, Liang, Chen, Sothern Tang, Ming, Taipin Heavenly Kingdom and the Republic of China. The city becomes the cultural hub in China and the Southern region of Yangtze River. Based in Nanjing, by promoting local artists and talents, Deji Art Museum has gradually built up the collection of the art of Jinling. The art of Jinling comprises of exquisite landscape paintings of Jinling ( Nanjing ) sceneries that handed down from one generation to another, as well as paintings by the prominent active figures of local Jinling art communities, many of those paintings are masterworks in the history of Chinese paintings.

For a long time, Deji Art Museum has focused on a number of artists, including the active members of Jinling literati and painters, the artists of whom were born in Nanjing or have settled in Nanjing for a long time, and the ones whom have obtained important artistic achievements. The relationships of those artists narrated the story of how the painting techniques were learnt. They formed their own discipleship within family members, usually, father and son, or between master and student, or between friends and their contemporaries. Inspirationally stimulating, those relationships articulated how the thoughts and ideas of the artists were exchanged and passed down from one generation to another. Given its presence of a number of painting styles, during the Ming and the Qing dynasty, Jinling became one of the most active regions in the creation of Chinese paintings, a leader that set its own standard.
