The city becomes the cultural hub in China and the Southern region of Yangtze River. Based in Nanjing, by promoting local artists and talents, Deji Art Museum has gradually built up the collection of the art of Jinling. The art of Jinling comprises of exquisite landscape paintings of Jinling ( Nanjing ) sceneries that handed down from one generation to another, as well as paintings by the prominent active figures of local Jinling art communities, many of those paintings are masterworks in the history of Chinese paintings.
For a long time, Deji Art Museum has focused on a number of artists, including the active members of Jinling literati and painters, the artists of whom were born in Nanjing or have settled in Nanjing for a long time, and the ones whom have obtained important artistic achievements. The relationships of those artists narrated the story of how the painting techniques were learnt. They formed their own discipleship within family members, usually, father and son, or between master and student, or between friends and their contemporaries. Inspirationally stimulating, those relationships articulated how the thoughts and ideas of the artists were exchanged and passed down from one generation to another. Given its presence of a number of painting styles, during the Ming and the Qing dynasty, Jinling became one of the most active regions in the creation of Chinese paintings, a leader that set its own standard.
