In midst of a new period of history, and under new global contexts, Deji Art Museum's modern art collection aims to recast unique artistic perspectives on the development of modernities in the world to rethink artistic developments and their inspirations for the future.

To begin with, the museum collects the painting by Eugène Boudin-the teacher of Claude Monet, the collection of western modern art forms the narrative of the development of its history, the core pieces of this collection comprises of the iconic masterpieces of western art from the second half of the 19th century to the mid-20th century, presenting the works by Monet, Picasso, Gauguin, Renoir, Chagall, and Morandi, forming the retrospective of the milestones that western modern art had imprinted in the context of world’s art history.

The collection of eastern modern and contemporary art focuses on the oil paintings by the first generation of artists that studied abroad, such as those works by Wu Dayu and Sanyu. Paintings by outstanding artists from Japan, Korea, Thailand and Vietnam are also featured in this collection. The collection showcases the development of art from the 20th century to the present, uncovers the inherent dynamics that pushes the modern art movement forward.
