Animals

Animals was a series of cartoon animals created specifically for David Shrigley’s participation in We Are Animals, a major group exhibition at Kunsthal Rotterdam in the Netherlands in 2021. People have been using animals to tell their stories for as long as they can remember. In fables and myths, people have given them human characteristics: the cunning fox, the stubborn donkey, and the clever owl. Human experience is expressed through animal figures, and surreal stories tell the truth about reality in society. These symbolic stories are re-expressed by the artist in a personal and unique language, thus bringing new life to this group of cartoon animals.
