Country Bouquet

Tom Wesselmann
1989

Description

As one of the greatest American Pop artists of the 20th century, Tom Wesselmann has been pushing the Pop Art movement forward by creating works in a variety of forms and media, including painting, collage, and sculpture. From the 1970s onwards, Wesselmann began to fully explore the conventional genres of landscape and still-life, partaking in observational studies of flora and fauna. Drawing from traditional still-life paintings, Wesselmann pioneered the use of industrial technology to create laser-cut wall sculptures. Country Bouquet is one of the most representative works of this kind. The brightly colored flowers in the piece are not only simple and lovely but also mark his new experiments in painting techniques.
