Deji Art Museum is a not for profit art institution founded by the Deji Group. Located in Nanjing, a major metropolis in Eastern China renowned as one of the “Four Great Ancient Capitals of China,” the museum is dedicated to building a comprehensive art institution and cultural platform that presents the arts across cultures and eras.

Based on a global vision and a distinctive, regional cultural expression in the contemporary context, the Deji Art Museum is honored to present comprehensive and diverse collections, research, and exhibition programs ranging from the arts of ancient China to Chinese and international modern and contemporary art. Moreover, the museum also hosts a thematic collection focused on the 2,500-year history of the art of Jinling, with “Jinling” being a historical name for Nanjing.

The timeline of the museum’s Ancient Chinese Art collection spans from the Neolithic period and Shang, Zhou, Qin, Han dynasties to the Song, Yuan, Ming, and Qing dynasties. The main categories of the collection are jades, ceramics, paintings and calligraphies, Buddhist statues, and furniture. The museum presents Chinese culture in a condensed manner with a representative collection of cultural artifacts. At the same time, it has also gradually built up an increasingly well-rounded China and International Modern and Contemporary Art collection, dedicated to conveying particular artists’ perceptions, reflections, and expressions of their societies and times while showcasing the dynamism of contemporary artistic developments worldwide.

By collecting, researching, and presenting works of art across cultures and eras, the museum aims to promote international cultural exchange between China, Asia, and beyond in order to enhance the public’s appreciation and understanding of diverse cultures and arts, and to serve as a platform for the confluence of art, education, and culture.

The main venue of Deji Art Museum is located on the eighth floor of Deji Plaza Phase II in Xinjiekou, “China’s No.1 Business Circle.” Sitting along the cultural axis of the city, it is a museum well integrated into the scenes of everyday life in Nanjing. A forthcoming new museum space is located at the eastern foot of Nanjing’s Zijin Mountain, where rivers and mountains meet and universities cluster. Designed by the acclaimed architect Kengo Kuma, this new venue is rooted in Chinese culture and Eastern aesthetics, adorned with a professional grand theater meeting the highest of international standards, and refined through an organic blend of art, humanity, and nature. It is scheduled to officially open to the public in 2025.
