Introduction
This album was jointly created by Jin Nong and Luo Pin. Jin Nong contributed five paintings, including two of flowers, one each of a cat, a duck, and a delicately detailed stream-rock. The compositions are harmonious and elegant, demonstrating his ingenuity. Four of Jin Nong’s paintings feature long inscriptions written in regular script; only the “Autumn Pond with Variegated Duck” is left without an inscription, allowing the lively, whole scene to speak for itself. Luo Pin contributed the remaining five paintings, depicting magnolia, banana, bamboo, loquat, and ink lotus. His brushwork is exquisite and refined, evoking a sense of serenity and vitality. As Jin Nong praised, “The brushwork is clever, without a single flaw.”
Luo Pin was Jin Nong’s devoted student. At the time when Jin Nong was sick, Luo Pin cared for him, and after his death, handled the funeral arrangements to the best of his ability, reflecting the deep bond between teacher and student. Artistically, both were free and uninhibited in their brushwork, expressing personal temperament. Whether depicting flowers or animals, their works are always full of life and vigour.
