Introduction
Georges Braque, co-founder of the Cubist movement alongside Picasso, is one of the most influential artists in 20th-century Western modern art—the term “Cubism” originates from his work. In the 1920s, Braque shifted away from the rigorous style of Cubism, turning to nature and still life for inspiration as he explored new artistic possibilities. Corbeille de Fleurs, created during this period, employs his innovative technique of mixing sand into oil paint, depicts a table adorned with a rustic, lush bouquet of chrysanthemums, accompanied by an open sheet of music—reflecting Braque’s deep fascination with music at the time.
