Introduction
Paul Cézanne was hailed as the “father of Modern Art” and his artistic concepts profoundly influenced the course of 20th-century art history. This work was created during his “Impressionist period” and holds a transitional significance in the evolution of Cézanne’s style. During this period, he gradually abandoned the somber tones, heavy outlines, and thick textures of his early works, moving toward a lighter and more delicate brushwork, while using variations in color brightness to shape the structure of objects. The composition features complementary red and green tones, with white flowers creating a striking contrast against the black background. The meticulous depiction of reflections and distorted light on the glass vase reflects the Impressionists’ keen sensitivity to the complexity of light and color, and it also reveals Cézanne’s early exploration of structure and inner order, foreshadowing the mature style that he gradually developed after 1878.
