Introduction
In 1934, Lv Sibai, a pioneering Chinese artist who studied in France, returned to China. From 1940 onward, he taught at the Art Department of National Central University and other institutions, making outstanding contributions to modern Chinese art education. Vase Flowers is a work from the prime of Lv’s career. Rooted in Realism and early Impressionism, it also incorporates techniques from traditional Chinese art. With bold, vigorous brushstrokes and bright, warm colours, he depicts a lively bouquet arranged in a vase adorned with peacock-feather motifs rich in folk-art charm. The painting exudes the rustic poetry of the pastoral, reflecting his positive outlook on daily life and his deep appreciation for the vitality of living things.
