Introduction
Marie Françoise Gilot was a widely acclaimed woman artist who made her mark on the art scene in France at the age of 21, and she was once a major muse of Pablo Picasso. Her style moved between abstraction and figuration, featuring both the structural characteristics of Cubism and vibrant, flowing palette, making it difficult to classify her within any single artistic school. Rose Bush was created when Gilot was 92 years old, encapsulating the essence of her lifelong artistic exploration. She did not confine herself to the natural form of roses but deconstructed them into geometric shapes using rich blocks of colors, unifying the composition with her favourite color, red. This work demonstrated her vigorous and enduring creativity while allowing the imagery of flowers to continually regenerate within an evolving formal language.
