Introduction
The contemporary artist duo Rob and Nick Carter are best known for their Transforming series, which fuses traditional art with digital media. Drawing inspiration from classical art, they spent three years creating a three-hour moving image based on Vase of Flowers in a Window, the legendary 1618 Dutch still life by the Vanitas master Ambrosius Bosschaert. In their work, day and night pass in slow succession, insects flit through the air, and flowers stir with life. Through vivid form and cutting-edge digital technology, the piece invites viewers to reflect—almost unconsciously—on the dialectic between motion and stillness, while echoing the Vanitas theme of transience and the cyclical nature of life.
