Introduction
With a history of over 1,700 years, Yi embroidery is one of the traditional handicrafts of the Yi people in China, renowned as a “gem of Eastern embroidery art.” Celebrated for its distinctive patterns, rich colors, and exquisite craftsmanship, Yi embroidery is typically executed on textiles and can also be applied to home décor and artisanal crafts. More than just decorative and practical, it serves as a vital medium for cultural transmission and expression among the Yi people, embodying their traditional wisdom and creativity.
In this session at the “World of Flowers” exhibition hall, Ms. Ding Lanying, a inheritor of China’s national intangible cultural heritage project, will draw inspiration from the compositions and color palettes of over a hundred master artists featured in the exhibition. Using time-honored Yi embroidery techniques, she will reinterpret the chromatic poetry of oil paintings, guiding your fingertips to weave a unique Yi embroidery artwork of your own!
This is not merely a hands-on workshop — it is a testament to how ancient art continues to thrive and evolve within modern civilization.
