Introduction
Li Zongjin, a representative figure among China’s second generation of oil painters, worked in a realist style characterized by vivid modelling and nuanced coloration. In Vase Flowers and Fruit, the composition emphasizes a balance of structure and tension, while the textures capture both the freshness of the flowers and fruit and the solidity of the vase. The warm tones and delicate brushwork create his signature atmosphere of domestic warmth, while from ordinary subjects Li draws out a plain, unpretentious beauty and achieves a pleasing harmony.
