Introduction
Tamara de Lempicka, acclaimed as “The Queen of Art Deco”, was a prominent figure in painting within this artistic movement. In 1922, she made her debut at the Paris Autumn Salon and immediately stood out, and Bouquet d’Hortensias et Citron was created during that period. The hydrangeas, leaves, and lemons were composed of concise geometric shapes in the painting, presenting a texture reminiscent of diamond facets; the background was spread with a rich ultramarine color, with soft folds and luxurious sheen forming a subtle contrast with the foreground objects. These features demonstrated Lempicka’s exploration in the fusion of Cubism and decorative aesthetics, foreshadowing the mature artistic expression she would develop later.
