Paul Gauguin was known as one of the “Triumvirate of Post-Impressionism, who made important contributions to the formation of modern art theory and the exploration of the nature of painting. In 1876, Gauguin became acquainted with many masters of Impressionism and took part in his first exhibition at the Salon des Beaux-Arts. During that time, he created this painting Bouquet of Peonies on a Musical Score, which is characterized by both Realism and Impressionism, reflecting the important influence that Impressionism had on him during this period.
